A partnership between The University of Queensland and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) Academy of Research (UQIDAR) is paving the way for students and academics to address issues affecting India, Australia and global communities.
Through UQIDAR, students have access to world-class facilities and resources and benefit from the combined expertise from research supervisors from both institutions. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a jointly awarded Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from both UQ and IITD.
The program’s first PhD students commenced work on cross-disciplinary challenges in engineering, science and health in January 2019. In 2021, two joint-PhD scholars received one of India’s most prestigious scholarships to become Prime Minister’s Research Fellows.
The fellowship award is designed to cultivate ever-higher levels of quality for research across Indian higher education institutions, helping bright minds progress the science and technology fields. Ms Sushmita Ghosh and Mr Marut Jain are recipients of the fellowship and are supervised jointly by IITD and UQ researchers, working on projects related to energy usage by communication networks on the Internet of Things (IoT) and improvements to wastewater treatment in petrochemical refineries.

Students will be able to access and apply for field-of-study scholarships at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels through UQ faculties, private sector organisations, industry partners or schools. UQ is comprised of six distinct faculties, as well as eight multidisciplinary research institutes that are recognised at an international level.
